Music Prep

Behind the Scenes of Film Music

Music preparation is all about making sure the music is ready to shine when it’s time to record. It’s the behind-the-scenes work that ensures every note, every dynamic, and every detail is exactly where it needs to be.

For me, it’s not just about getting the job done—it’s about making the process as smooth and stress-free as possible for everyone involved, from the composer to the performers.

Here’s what I focus on:

  • Orchestration & Arranging: Taking a composition and turning it into a full, performance-ready score that’s clear and playable for an orchestra or ensemble.
  • Copying & Transcription: Creating accurate sheet music that performers can rely on, down to the smallest detail.
  • Proofreading & Engraving: Double-checking every note, dynamic, and marking to make sure the music is polished and ready for the studio.
  • Librarian Services: Organizing and managing all the music materials so that recording sessions run smoothly and efficiently.

The Tools I Use

To make all of this happen, I rely on a mix of industry-standard tools and software:

  • Sibelius: For creating and engraving professional-quality scores.
  • Logic Pro/Pro Tools: For composing, producing, and refining music.
  • Wwise: For interactive audio and sound design integration.
  • Google Suite & Microsoft Office: For staying organized and collaborating with teams.

Music prep might not always be the most glamorous part of the process, but it’s one of the most important. It’s where the groundwork is laid for a successful recording session, and I take a lot of pride in making sure everything is ready to go.
